Admissions - Early Years & In-Year
Early Years Admissions
Here at Spellbrook Church of England Primary School (VC) we have an Early Years Foundation Class which admits nursery aged children as ‘rising fours’. Admissions into the early years class are managed through the school with allocations made in accordance with Hertfordshire County Council guidelines. Enquiries for admission into our early year’s class should be made directly to the school by contacting the school office on 01279 723024. (Please beware that HCC Admissions Online do not manage applications for our early years unit).
Early Years Free Childcare Entitlement
We are currently unable to offer the full free 30 hour entitlement to three and four years olds entering our early years class. We are though, able to offer 15 free hours per week usually on a mornings only timetable. We may have some flexibility in some years and may also be able to 'top up' these hours. Please do ask our office staff for the latest availibility.
Parents may find useful the booklet; Hertfordshire Early Education and Free Childcare Handbook.
Reception and In Year Admissions
All Reception aged children start school in September in line with Hertfordshire County Council admissions arrangements. Hertfordshire County Council manages all applications for Reception and In-Year admission enquiries for our school. Please contact us for details or visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions. (Acceptance into our early years class (nursery) does not guarantee a Reception place).
We are the Church school associated with Great St. Mary's in Sawbridgeworth and children who reside in the parish of Great St. Mary’s, Sawbridgeworth and the nearby town of Bishops Stortford usually make up our school roll. Children residing in neighbouring Essex and within reasonable distance of the school are very welcome to apply. Our policy on admissions follows the admission criteria outlined by Hertfordshire County Council.
The regulations for entry to schools, where the Admissions Authority is the Local Authority (LA) are published annually. The LA publishes a composite admissions prospectus each year, which gives information about how parents can apply for a place in the school of their choice. Parents have a right to express a preference for the school of their choice and they should do so on the application form. Expressing a preference does not, in itself, guarantee a place at this school.
