Admissions - Early Years & In-Year
Early Years Admissions
Here at Spellbrook Church of England Primary School (VC) we have an Early Years Foundation Unit which admits nursery aged children as ‘rising fours’. Admissions into the early years unit are managed through the school with allocations made in accordance with Hertfordshire County Council guidelines. Enquiries for admission into our early year’s unit should be made directly to the school by contacting the school office on 01279 723024. (Please beware that HCC Admissions Online do not manage applications for our early years unit).
Nursery aged children can start school in September or January depending on when their birth date falls. (Children born between 1 September and 28/29 February, autumn term and children born between 1 March and 31 August, spring term) Our school invites all nursery aged children to start in September. Parents will be given the opportunity to discuss admission arrangements for their child.
Early Years Free Childcare Entitlement
Due to the suitability of school accommodation we are unable to offer the full free 30 hour entitlement to three and four years olds entering our early years unit. We are though, able to offer 15 free hours per week on a mornings only timetable.
Parents may find useful the booklet; Hertfordshire Early Education and Free Childcare Handbook.
Reception and In Year Admissions
All Reception aged children start school in September in line with Hertfordshire County Council admissions arrangements. Hertfordshire County Council manages all applications for Reception and In-Year admission enquiries for our school. Please contact us for details or visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions. (Acceptance into our early years unit (nursery) does not guarantee a Reception place).
We are the Church school associated with Great St. Mary's in Sawbridgeworth and children who reside in the parish of Great St. Mary’s, Sawbridgeworth and the nearby town of Bishops Stortford usually make up our school roll. Children residing in neighbouring Essex and within reasonable distance of the school are welcome to apply. Our policy on admissions follows the admission criteria outlined by Hertfordshire County Council.
The regulations for entry to schools, where the Admissions Authority is the Local Authority (LA) are published annually. The LA publishes a composite admissions prospectus each year, which gives information about how parents can apply for a place in the school of their choice. Parents have a right to express a preference for the school of their choice and they should do so on the application form. Expressing a preference does not, in itself, guarantee a place at this school.
